Animal Response Team Receives Grant

Dog club affiliate offers funds that will go toward equipment for emergency shelters.

The North Carolina State Animal Response Team has been awarded a $15,000 grant from an American Kennel Club affiliate for the temporary housing of pets during natural disasters.

According to the animal response team, the funds will be used to buy trailers, crates and other equipment needed at emergency shelters. It will be donated to the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management.

The emergency management division is expected to use the equipment during natural or man-made disasters, like hurricanes or chemical spills.

The donation comes from AKC Companion Animal Recovery, a nonprofit that focuses on helping pet owners reunite with their lost animals.

AKC CAR President and CEO Carmen Battaglia presented the grant check to NC SART Executive Director Leonard Bull during a ceremony last month.
