Chicago Area Mutt Show Planned

The event, set for May, is designed in part to promote no-kill shelters.

The Berwyn Development Corporation and the City of Berwyn are teaming up with PAWS Chicago, VCA Berwyn Animal Hospital and Tails in Need NYC to launch the first annual Great American Mutt Show for the Chicago area.

The event takes place on May 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Morton West High School, 2400 Home Ave, Berwyn, IL 60402. Participants, vendors, sponsors and volunteers who wish to be part of the show can register through the Berwyn Development Corp. by calling (708) 788-8100.

Organizers say the show will feature a variety of entertainment-based competitions for mixed breeds and rescue dogs and will also include classes and presentations by sponsors.

A Best in Show grand prize will be awarded at the end of the day. Sponsored classes and presentations will range from new pet products to tips on grooming, training, nutrition, pet care and more.

The contests currently opened for registration include the following competitions – and several more – which are subject to change or merging pending sign-up results:

  • Most Musical
  • Best Lap Dog Over 50 Pounds
  • Looks Most Like Owner
  • Most Creative Pet Trick
  • Best Kisser
  • Most Misbehaved
  • Best Catcher
  • Best/Highest Jumper
  • Most Unusual Markings
  • Unusual Mixture
  • Tallest Mutt
  • Shortest Mutt
  • Most Unusual Bark
  • Smallest Big Dog

In addition to fun and entertainment, the event is designed to promote no-kill animal shelters in the Chicago area, as well as encourage and educate the public on animal rescue, pet adoption, neutering and spaying, responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
