February Deemed ‘I Love NYC Pets’ Month

Inaugural "I Love NYC Pets" month includes extended shelter hours and citywide events for dogs and dog owners.

The Mayor’s Alliance and Maddie’s Fund have proclaimed February “I Love NYC Pets” month in the Big Apple.

More than 50 adoption events are planned this month for the city’s five boroughs, including a full weekend of citywide events Feb. 10 and 11. The inaugural celebration includes extended adoption hours at city shelters, special starter kit gift bags filled with product samples, and coupons from pet product manufacturers.

Highlights of “I Love NYC Pets” month will include special pet adoption events held at select Commerce Bank locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx Feb. 10 and 11 from noon to 4 p.m.

Rescue groups scheduled to participate in the adoption drive include ASPCA, Animal Care & Control of New York City, Animal Haven, Bide-A-Wee, Humane Society of New York, and the North Shore Animal League.

The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Inc., is a coalition of more than 100 animal rescue groups and shelters that are working with the city of New York to find homes for every cat and dog in the city. The Mayor’s Alliance is operated by Maddie’s Fund, an animal rescue organization founded by PeopleSoft founder Dave Duffield, and his wife, Cheryl, and named for their late Miniature Schnauzer, Maddie.
