Calling All Heroic Dogs!

SPCA hero dog contest winner will be flown to Los Angeles for special ceremony.

The Los Angeles branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals seeks nominations for its 25th annual “National Hero Dog Award,” an award that celebrates extraordinary heroic acts performed by dogs that save and/or protect people.

The winning dog and two of his or her human companions will be flown to Los Angeles for the official ceremony at the Staples Center.

The society accepts nominations from anyone who has or knows of a canine deserving of such an honor. Nominations must be for heroic acts in the 2006 calendar year. Any dog that is a companion animal and not formally trained for rescues or as a police dog is eligible.

Heroic acts must have some way of being verified, such as newspaper clippings, police report, etc. Photos are optional and will not be returned.

To nominate a dog, submit an essay of 100 words or less describing the heroic act that occurred in 2006 with a name, address, and daytime telephone number. Submission deadline is April 2, 2007.

Nominations can be sent to:
