Pet Thefts Rise As Economy Hits Dog-Gone Low
It might not be up there with burglary or other types of property theft, but dognapping is on the rise, says American Kennel Club spokesperson Lisa Peterson. Police reports don't make a distinction between pet theft and other property theft, so there's no way to pinpoint the exact number of stolen pets each year, but anecdotally, officers say that pet theft is increasing this year, MSNBC reports.

A dog has appeared in court in the eastern Indian state of Bihar accused of breaching the peace. Police demanded severe action against the dog for biting people. His owner says he has only attacked burglars, BBC News reports.

Bristol Officers Carry First-Aid Kits for Dogs
Commanders handed out canine first-aid kits to all four handlers in the Bristol, Conn., police K9 unit last week in case their dogs are attacked, injured, or accidentally poisoned with narcotics while working. Dozens of municipal police departments in Connecticut have patrol dogs, but only a small percentage carry canine first-aid kits in cruisers, The Hartford Courant reports.
