Church of the Epiphany's columbarium is the final resting place for members' cremation ashes, but the first personalities to be interred could well be a Rottweiler and a cat. In July, the Episcopal congregation's governing board approved parishioners' requests to allow cremated pets to be interred in the same niche with their owners, The Virginia Pilot reports.

Family Says Neighbor Shot Dog for Being Too Loud
A family says a neighbor they were already afraid of is the one who shot and killed their puppy for being too loud. The Keeley's dog was shot on the 4th of July. Auburn Police say a neighbor shot the Keeley's 7-month old bull mastiff, Taz, and she was arrested Thursday and is being held on animal cruelty charges, Komo News reports.

Full Honors for Army Dog Handler
The funeral of a British Army dog handler killed in Afghanistan has been held in Newcastle. L/Cpl. Kenneth Rowe of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, had been due to leave front line duties, but requested to stay on. He and his explosives sniffer dog Sasha were killed after coming under Taliban fire in Helmand last month, BBC News (United Kingdom) reports.
