Beth Ostrosky, spokeswoman for the no-kill animal shelter North Shore Animal League America, recently formed Team Go Beth O! – a group of runners that she will lead at the ING New York City Marathon, Nov. 2.
Her team, made up of runners and supporters, aspires to raise funds to directly benefit the cats, dogs, kittens and puppies of the Animal League. The marathon is 26.2 miles, and the team has set a goal to raise $262,000 through sponsorships.
Her motivation, said the model-actress, comes from animals like Corky, the 3-month-old Cocker Spaniel pup, who was found abandoned in a dumpster; and Melody, a Calico mom with her five healthy kittens who were all saved from being euthanized from an overcrowded shelter.
All proceeds will benefit the Animal League’s mission to find permanent homes for more than 20,000 orphaned animals each year.
“I can’t begin to express how rewarding it is to run for such a great cause,” Ostrosky said.
