End-of-summer swim event raises money for planned dog park and animal shelter.

Almost two hundred dogs – some sporting swimsuits, life vests and floaties – took to a Garland, Texas, public pool over the weekend to raise money for the city’s future dog park.

Dallas residents Douglas and Debra Payne told the Dallas Morning News that this was the first Dog-A-Poolooza event for their black Labrador Retriever Bo.

“It’s great to see other people who appreciate their dogs so much,” Debra said.

Dog-A-Poolooza proceeds also go to buy medical supplies for the Garland Animal Shelter, Garland Bark Park organization president Dave Degnon told the newspaper. “Shelters don’t get lots of money, and it’s good to help them so we can see more of them [dogs] get a home,” he said.

Winter Morin, also of Dallas, took her Golden Retriever Buddy and her Shih Tzu Frida to Dog-A-Poolooza to enjoy the end-of-summer swim.

“When I die, I want to go to heaven, and I want it to be just like this – dogs everywhere,” Morin said.
