Adoption Event Features Dogs Seized From Kennel

New homes sought for 120 dogs after large rescue at a West Virginia breeding operation.

Posted: September 5, 2008, 5 a.m. EDT

It was all about the Dachshunds on Wednesday at a North Shore Animal League America adoption event.

The more than 100 adoptable dogs, mostly Dachshunds of every shape, size, and color, were rescue dogs seized last week from an Internet-based commercial breeding operation in Parkersburg, W. Va. Two Animal League emergency rescue teams returned from West Virginia with 120 rescued dogs, including pregnant mothers.

The adoption event started at 10 a.m. in Port Washington, N.Y., and was expected to continue Thursday, said spokeswoman Dianne Zoppa. Other breeds available included three Chinese Cresteds, a few Cocker Spaniels, plus many mixed-breed “Mutt-i-grees” – both puppies and adult dogs.

More than 1,000 dogs were removed from the breeding business in what animal rescue groups called the largest rescue operation in West Virginia history. After health checks, spay or neuter surgery, and general care, Animal League made the dogs available for adoption into new homes.

I am so glad that these dogs have been taken from a life of misery and now have loving, forever homes to look forward to. I hope they all get spoiled rotten with love and care for the rest of their lives.

Happy ending for these little ones. I was so sick at hearing this especially because alot of them are doxies. I have 2 mini dachshunds & so it really hurts that anyone could be this cruel. I hope those people get what's coming to them!!
