Surfer dogs ruled the waves for the 3rd Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon in Del Mar, Calif., on Sunday, Sept. 7.
More than 80 dogs competed to benefit the Helen Woodward Animal Center. The event raised $30,000 in 2007, and this year it was expected to do even better, said spokesman John Van Zante.
Activities also included a costume contest and a celebrity appearance from dog lover Bridget Marquardt of the hit reality TV show "The Girls Next Door." “It’s the perfect Southern California event,” Van Zante said.
