Man Pleads No Contest in Dog Death
A man who jumped off the San Diego-Coronado Bridge with a police dog, killing it, at the end of a police pursuit on New Year’s Eve pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of harming a service animal, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

For the first time, Indianapolis soon may hire an animal welfare professional to manage its shelter for homeless dogs and cats. Up until now, the job has been a political appointment. Animal Protection Officers Seize More Than 60 Dogs Left in Cottage
Officers have recovered more than 60 dogs from a northern New Brunswick cottage where they were left to fend for themselves after the owner died. SPCA officials said Thursday some of the dogs, including puppies, had turned on each other and were covered in feces after being left unattended in the cottage near Edmundston for almost a week, the Canadian Press reports.
