Drew Barrymore has put her Labrador Retriever-Chow Chow mix Flossie on a diet, the Boston Globe reports.
The star – who voices a pampered Chihuahua named Chloe in the upcoming film “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” – is apparently worried about her adopted dog’s health and has asked the dog’s veterinarian to prescribe a prescription diet pill.
“Flossie has gained weight over the years, and Drew is concerned about her health,” a source told the Globe. “She loves that dog and would do anything to keep her healthy - even put her on a diet. She wants to make sure Flossie is around for as long as possible.”
Several years ago, Barrymore was saved by the now 12-year-old dog when a fire struck the star’s Los Angeles home. Flossie barked after smelling smoke around 3 a.m. and “literally banged on the bedroom door,” waking her and then boyfriend comedian Tom Green, Barrymore has said.
Barrymore’s next movie, “Beverly Hills Chihuahua,” arrives in theaters Oct. 3.
