Lansing-Based Sewage-Sniffing Dog Hunts E. coli
Sable's job stinks, but he doesn't seem to mind. The German Shepherd Dog mix is a sewage-sniffing dog. He works out of Lansing for Tetra Tech, an environmental engineering and consulting business, detecting illicit and failing septic connections that flow from homes into rivers and streams, The Bay City Times reports.

Great news from the campaign on the rescue front! Not the economic rescue package. The canine rescue package. Michelle Obama pledged on ``Entertainment Tonight’’ that when the family gets a dog – Barack Obama has promised one to his daughters once the campaign is over – it will be a rescue dog from a shelter, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Dog Returned to Owners After 425-Mile Trek
A Georgia family whose Golden Retriever disappeared Dec. 23 said they were stunned to learn their pet had traveled 425 miles to Florida. Liz Carter says the microchip planted under the skin of 7-year-old Pepper alerted a St. Petersburg, Fla., veterinarian to the fact that Pepper was a long, long way from home, United Press International reports.
