Special Needs Dobermans recently reported that it is close to the half-million dollar mark in fundraising efforts since its inception in 2001.
The all-volunteer organization is dedicated to helping Doberman Pinschers with extraordinary medical expenses and will have helped nearly 700 of them by the end of 2008.
“Many of these Dobermans, if not helped financially by SND, would have ended up in shelters or possibly euthanized because their families or rescue organizations could not afford to pay for their medical expenses,” said Steve Martin, president of SND. “Even something simple like a broken limb or an intestinal blockage could end up costing thousands of dollars — emergencies beyond the means of most families.”
Despite its landmark fundraising efforts, however, donations for the group are down this year. Martin said that he is hoping that the excitement at this year’s National Specialty Show, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Doberman, will help increase donations and shed more light on what SND does.
The National Specialty Show, which is hosted by the Doberman Pinscher Club of America, takes place Oct. 11 through 18 in Topeka, Kan.
