Michael Vick Pleads Guilty to Dogfighting in Virginia

After plea on state charges, Vick may be eligible for early release from jail.

Posted: November 26, 2008, 5 a.m. EST

Michael Vick appeared in a Richmond, Va., court Tuesday to enter a guilty plea on state dogfighting charges in an attempt to get out of jail early.

The former star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons was convicted on a federal dogfighting charge in August 2007. Authorities discovered more than 50 pit bulls, burial sites for dead dogs, and dogfighting paraphernalia.

Vick, 28, has been serving a 23-month sentence in Leavenworth, Kan. He was given a three-year suspended sentence.

“I want to apologize to the court, my family, and to all the kids who looked up to me as a role model,” Vick told the judge on Tuesday.

The dogs rescued from Vick’s estate became the center of one of the most publicized stories of 2007. A team of experts from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah worked with dogs to rehabilitate them and curb aggressive behavior to help them live peacefully with people and other dogs.

So Micahel Vick has apologized...mmm...you can't just say you're sorry so you can return to football. He is a disgrace! Also, I wonder if he has apologized to the dogs?? Has he been made to clean up after them? Wait on them hand and foot? Love them? Walk them? No, he has had to do nothing!!! He is a pig!

That's awful! Dog fighting makes me angry! I don't see why Michael Vick should get out of jail early.

This PIG doesn't deserve to be released AT ALL much less early!! They NEED to punish him & make it an example for others who look up to him or think it is cool to follow in his footsteps. Dog fighting is a vicious, cruel way for these animals to die. He needs to have the same treatment. NO MERCY!!
