The network known for its extensive offering of animal shows, Animal Planet, will premier its newest television series, “Underdog to Wonderdog” in January.
Lucky is the first dog to get the “Underdog to Wonderdog” treatment on a new Animal Planet series.
Each episode follows a different dog as he is rescued from a shelter and adopted by a loving family. Along the way, the dogs are rehabilitated, trained, and groomed by the show’s very own “Wonder Team” of experts, which includes professional dog trainer, author, and owner of Andrea Arden Dog Training, Andrea Arden, as well as Ali McLennan, a stylist with the American Academy of Pet Grooming.
There are thousands of homeless dogs in the United States, and the goal of this television series is to help as many of them as possible.
The first episode features a Yorkshire Terrier named Lucky who was hit by a car. Her owners could not afford the surgery she needed, so they left her with their local animal shelter. Viewers will watch as Lucky is rescued from the shelter, given the necessary surgery and rehabilitation, and placed with a devoted adoptive family.
“‘Underdog to Wonderdog” really pulls on your heartstrings and gives you a different perspective on what's important in life,” says the show’s host, Ryan Smith. “It is truly amazing to see the dogs go from living in shelters to being part of amazing families in only a few short weeks.”
The show premieres Jan. 3, 2009, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
