President Barack Obama says that he and his family will get their new puppy when the weather warms.
“We’re going to get it in the spring,” Obama told Anderson Cooper on CNN. “I think the theory is the girls might be less inclined to do the walking when it’s cold outside.”
Cooper also asked whether the first family had decided on a Portuguese Water Dog or a “Labradoodle” (Labrador Retriever-Poodle mix). “We’re still experimenting,” he said.
The national obsession over the Obamas’ puppy search began several months ago when Obama mentioned that he had promised to get his children a dog after the election – win or lose.
Obama renewed his much-reported-on pledge during his Nov. 4, 2008, victory speech in Chicago’s Grant Park. “Sasha and Malia, I love you both more than you can imagine. And you have earned the new puppy that’s coming with us,” Obama said.
Last month, Obama wouldn’t set a timetable for taking home a new pooch.
“We’re closing in on it,” Obama revealed in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. “This has been tougher than finding a Commerce Secretary.”
