$52,000 Grant to Benefit Dog Health Studies

Grant to AKC’s Canine Health Foundation will fund studies on lymphoma, epilepsy, and more.

Posted: April 20, 2009, 5 a.m. EDT

A recent sponsorship of $52,000 will go to support grants that aim to advance the health of the Great Dane and all dogs, according to the American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation (CHF).

The money pledged by the Great Dane Club of America and its charitable trust brings the organizations’ total giving to the CHF to more than $75,000 to date. Dog health programs funded by the organizations include studies in lymphoma, osteosarcoma, cardiomyopathy, cryptorchidism, and epilepsy.

“The Canine Health Foundation's vision of providing a better future for dogs through funding research on the canine genome and to discover the causes and treatments of canine diseases has provided the Great Dane Club of America the opportunity to partner with them to fund canine research to benefit not only Great Danes but all dogs," said Linda Ridder, president of GDCA.

The research projects will benefit all dogs, making the Great Dane sponsorship all the more valuable, according to the CHF.
