Drew Barrymore has one true love: her dog, Flossie. “She and I are still in love 14 years … that is a relationship that works,” Barrymore confesses on last week’s “Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
The actress says she lost two dogs, Templeton and Vivian, last year. “Vivian was so in love with Templeton that the minute he passed on, she was like, ‘I can’t take life without him,’” the actress says.
Barrymore spread the dogs’ ashes on their favorite stretch of Malibu beach. “Of course it went like “The Big Lebowski” and all the ashes blew back in my face,” she laughs. “But it was really wonderful, and their ashes went together into the ocean.”
Barrymore, who stars in HBO’s “Grey Gardens,” says Labrador Retriever Flossie is “like a puppy” now that she’s top dog in Barrymore’s life.
“Flossie is like, ‘I’ve been waiting 14 years for the spotlight!” Barrymore laughs. “I’m pretty sure that if I got another puppy, [Flossie] would be like, ‘I’m outta here.’”
“Grey Gardens,” costarring Jessica Lange, debuts on HBO this month.
