Dogs, death, and a handsome detective make for an exciting mystery in the new book “Hounding the Pavement: A Dog Walker Mystery” by Judi McCoy.

Ellie Engelman is trying to re-invent her life post-divorce. A decade after her beloved dog Rudy died, she is prepared to welcome a new dog into her life. But she is taken by surprise when she finds rescues a Yorkshire Terrier-Poodle mix who turns out to be the spirit of Rudy reborn.

She is even more surprised when she realizes she and the dog share a unique bond – they can actually communicate. Ellie finds she can communicate with other dogs, too, a helpful skill now that she has decided to become a dog walker. But three weeks into her new gig, she discovers a client’s dead body. When she realizes his champion Bichon Frise is missing, she is determined to find the killer.

What follows is a hair-raising adventure. With characters like the dreamy New York detective to the dangerous killer, the book is a thrilling drama that will keep you on your toes.

But all drama aside, readers may want to know the author is donating all royalties from book sales to the Best Friends Animal Society.

“Hounding the Pavement: A Dog Walker Mystery” by Judi McCoy is on sale now.
