You can't help but melt into a mushy sentimental pile when you hear stories about soldiers like Sgt. Jason Roberts who fall in love with dogs in a war zone. The 26-year-old found Sandy wandering his base in Afghanistan during his second tour of duty. Since then, Roberts, whose two friends were killed in an explosion, has found comfort in the dog. Now, Roberts is trying to ship Sandy home, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Widower Finds Dogs After Wife’s Fatal Crash
A Laramie, Wyo., man who lost his wife in a traffic crash last month found some consolation in finding the family's two dogs days after the wreck near Casper. Greg Wong’s wife, Susan, died after her Isuzu Rodeo rolled along Wyoming 487 on May 30. The family’s two dogs were with her, but could not be found near the wreck. It took days of searching and hiring a professional service with a search dog before both dogs were found and safely recovered, The Associated Press reports.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police received a gift from Queen Elizabeth in the form of a purebred yellow Labrador Retriever who will work as a bomb-sniffer.
