Seized Dogs in Texas Find Relief

Emergency Relief Waggin’ deployed to care for more than 450 dogs seized from kennel.

Posted: July 10, 2009, 5 a.m. EDT

Petsmart Charities Inc. is aiding in a large-scale animal rescue taking place in Montague, Texas, where more the 450 dogs were reportedly seized from a kennel. The nonprofit organization has dispatched its Emergency Relief Waggin’ vehicle, stocked with $60,000 worth of supplies, to the scene.

“We received a request for assistance from the Montague county sheriff’s department, which is working in cooperation with the Humane Society of North Texas to bring an end to reportedly inhumane conditions at the facility,” said Barbara Fought, Petsmart Charities manager of emergency grants. “This is the ninth deployment of the Emergency Relief Waggin’ vehicle this year.”

The 53-foot trailer and its 16-ton cargo load left the Petsmart Distribution Center in Ennis, Texas, on July 4, for nearby Fort Worth. That is where animal rescue teams are operating out of an emergency animal shelter in warehouse space donated by Chesapeake Energy, according to Petsmart Charities.

The Emergency Relief Waggin’ contains dog supplies, such as dog food, wire crates, plastic carriers, bowls and leashes. In addition, the vehicle is stocked with fans, a generator, tents and lights to aid animal rescuers on location.

Petsmart Charities Inc. was founded in 2006 by Petsmart Inc. While the pet specialty retailer is large supporter of the organization, Petsmart Charities operates as a separate entity.

It makes me proud that I donate to PetsMart Charities! So often when you donate to a charity, you don't know where your money goes. Petsmart is spending their donated money on animals!
