Nutro Products has issued a voluntary recall of select puppy foods due to the discovery of melted plastic in its production line. The company said it is highly unlikely that any pieces of plastic made it into the finished product, but is retrieving all potentially affected products anyway.
The small pieces of plastic, identified as a worker’s “bump cap,” similar to a hard hat, which inadvertently made its way into the manufacturing process, was originally found in both Nutro dry cat and dog food products. However, the company said since it immediately retrieved the affected pet food from its distributors, only three SKUs reached a small number of Petsmart and Petco stores. The three SKUs are:
