New Los Angeles Boarding Facility to Help Dogs

The new facility will generate revenue for a Los Angeles animal rescue organization.

New Leash On Life, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit animal rescue foundation, has opened a temporary boarding facility to help cover its basic operational expenses. Like many shelters suffering under the current economic climate, the group almost closed in October when its charitable donations failed to cover costs.

“Our aim is to become self sufficient -- as opposed to donation dependent -- so we can continue to rescue, rehabilitate, and place homeless animals,” says Sean Tanner, business development director of New Leash On Life.

“We need funding to implement our business plan to build a separate retail boarding facility at the ranch which will generate revenue equal to our operating expenses. While waiting for funding, we’ve converted some of our kennels for retail boarding to subsidize our expenses. That will allow us to temporarily continue our mission of local and national animal rescue work.”

The 13-acre ranch in Newhall houses the boarding facility, which features 12 indoor, temperature-controlled kennels, plus three bungalows (mini houses featuring open sleeping privileges and a private fenced-in yard for double occupancy).

The complex also offers playtime in a full-sized swimming pool and off-leash recreation in an enclosed private dog park. The ranch is staffed 24/7 by professional handlers, trainers, and volunteers.
