Bomb-Sniffing Dogs Deployed to Super Bowl
Several dozen bomb-sniffing dogs, robots that defuse explosives and police bomb squads are being deployed to protect the Super Bowl. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives showed reporters Tuesday how the dogs can detect even minute amounts of bomb compounds, The Associated Press reports.

Dog Who Bit L.A. Firefighter Freed From Quarantine
The German Shepherd who was fished out of the Los Angeles River in a dramatic televised rescue has been released from quarantine to his owner. The dog was under a 10-day quarantine to check for rabies after biting the firefighter who swooped down from a helicopter to save him on Jan. 22, The Associated Press reports.

Minn. Woman Seeks Dog After Fatal Crash in Iowa
After losing her husband in a horrific pileup during a blizzard in northern Iowa, a Minnesota woman holds out hope that one of the couple's little dogs hasn't been lost, too. Craig Johnson, 51, was struck and killed in an auto accident Jan. 25, and the couple's two Pomeranians, Boo and Bear, clambered out of the car and ran away, The Associated Press reports.

Agents Bust Suspected Dogfighting Ring
A dead Pit Bull, six scarred but alive ones and a cat were removed early this morning from the site of a suspected dogfighting ring in North Philadelphia, officials say. A woman was arrested but Pennsylvania SPCA officers did not find the alleged ring operator when they executed a search warrant, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
