Dog Survives After Eating More Than 30 Nails
A dog in Colorado Springs survived after eating more than two dozen nails from the backyard. Carla Borck has two dogs, a black lab and a Basset Hound named Sophie. Borck's black lab went around the yard digging up nails and Sophie followed behind and ate them. Later, an X-ray revealed that Sophie had eaten 31 nails, siding off of the house and her rabies tags, KABC-TV (Los Angeles) reports.

JAVMA Publishes 14-Year Study on Dog Diets
A 14-year study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association dispels a handful of myths about canine nutrition. Results from the study, which followed 48 pairs of Labrador Retriever littermates, suggest that limiting food to maintain an ideal body condition throughout a dog’s life increased the dog’s median life span by 1.8 years and delayed the onset of chronic disease symptoms, Zootoo.com reports.

One rabies case reported in Greenbrier County, W.V., did not manifest the foaming at the mouth and aggression symptoms many people are familiar with. The Greenbrier County Health Department has been dealing with an elevated rabies caseload for several years now, but the discovery of a sick dog in Alderson on Oct. 13 revealed a confirmed rabies case that surprised the experts in Greenbrier County, West Virginia News Media reports.
