Found Animals Foundation, the California Veterinary Medical Board and the California Spay and Neuter License Plate Fund are offering cash prizes to nonprofit animal organizations and municipal animal shelters that help promote the California Pet Lover’s License Plate.
Actor Pierce Brosnan contributed the original artwork that will be featured on the California Pet Lover's License Plate.
“With 500,000 dogs and cats being euthanized in California each year at a cost to taxpayers of $250 million, there is no better time to promote the importance of spaying and neutering as one of the best tools we have available to minimize the number of pets entering shelters,” says Aimee Gilbreath, executive director for Found Animals Foundation.
Organizations that participate in the contest will be asked to help promote the Pet Lover’s License Plate by displaying brochures, hanging banners and featuring the plate in publications and inserts. All promotional materials will be provided to participating organizations free of charge.
Three organizations with the greatest number of orders will win cash prizes totaling $15,000, Gilbreath says.
The California Pet Lover’s License Plate was launched last June. Proceeds from the plates will go to cities and counties throughout the state to support free and low-cost spay and neuter programs through clinics, shelters and vouchers redeemable at local veterinarians.
Applications from interested organizations must be submitted by March 31.
