Uneasy Agreement Reached over Gray Wolves' Status
Facing mounting pressure from lawmakers over gray wolves, wildlife advocates reached an agreement with the Obama administration Friday to lift protections for the species in Montana and Idaho and allow hunting. The settlement agreement, opposed by some environmentalists, is intended to resolve years of litigation that has kept wolves in the Northern Rockies shielded by the Endangered Species Act even as the population expanded dramatically, reports the Associated Press.
Oregon Firefighters Trained to Give CPR to Pets
Some Oregon firefighters and paramedics are now equipped and trained to give first aid to dogs, cats and other pets. Ashland Fire & Rescue firefighters were trained last week to do CPR on dogs, cats, ferrets, gerbils and even reptiles that have inhaled smoke. All five department engines now carry oxygen masks for pets, reports the Associated Press.
