Visitors to the Arrowhead Home and Builders Show can bring home new weatherproof siding or a new type of flooring, but they could also bring home a new pet. Seven area animal shelters will have about 500 dogs and cats available over the course of the show, Duluth News Tribune reports.

A former Staunton dog breeder who had her business shuttered in December following 50 misdemeanor convictions, including charges of animal cruelty, filed a petition for appeal this past week, Staunton News Leader reports.
Antiquated Animal Shelter To Be Replaced
Miami-Dade took a step closer to leaving its antiquated animal shelter on Monday when the County Commission gave officials the go-ahead to spend about $6.6 million in bond money for a property in Doral. The old shelter recently weathered an outbreak of infectious disease, The Miami Herald reports.
