Three big old guys — a bit gimpy, as old guys are — meander happily through the trees, noses to the ground, lost in thoughts of whatever creature (maybe a coyote, maybe a mountain lion) passed through here last night. Four of their pals relax on the deck, soaking up the spring sunshine. And a couple of big blonds, graying around the edges, do the joyful, full-butt-swinging thing as a visitor approaches.

Judge Denies Dogs from the Hemsley Fortune
Animal charities who were hoping a judge would help them take a bite out of Leona Helmsley's multi-billion dollar foundation were barking up the wrong tree. A Manhattan judge has denied a bid by the ASPCA, the Humane Society of the United States and other animal groups to get a much larger share of the foundation's billions, finding that even though the late "Queen of Mean" directed her massive fortune go to the dogs, the foundation trustees have the discretion to give it away however they want, reports the New York Post.
No More Doggies in the Window
There won't be any doggies in the windows of Richmond pet stores come Sunday. A B.C. Supreme Court judge has upheld the city's bylaw banning the sale of dogs by pet stores, a move made to curb the proliferation of puppy mills that was endorsed by the SPCA and various other animal-protection agencies, reports The Province
