Don’t Bite the Hand that Drops off Your Mail

This week, the Postal Service released statistics highlighting the cities where the most dog attacks occurred nationwide.

Posted: May 15, 2011, 3 a.m. EDT

In 2010, 5,669 postal employees were attacked in more than 1,400 cities, a number that while significant is only a small part of the 4.7 million Americans bitten annually — the majority of whom are children. Many of these bites could have been prevented.

The Postal Service top 10 rankings and number of dog bites per city for 2010 are:

1.    Houston, TX  — 62
2.    Columbus, OH and San Diego, CA  — 45 each
3.    Los Angeles, CA — 44
4.    Louisville, KY — 40
5.    San Antonio, TX and St. Louis, MO — 39 each
6.    Cleveland, OH and Phoenix — 38 each
7.    Minneapolis, MN and Portland, OR — 35
8.    Denver, CO and Philadelphia, PA — 31
9.    Sacramento, CA — 30
10.  Seattle, WA — 28

Wow, that just proves how many stupid and inconsiderate owners are out there. I bet most of the dogs suffer bad consequences ( euthanasia ) for these bites and the owners just pay a little fine and live on to get another dog. I feel for the postman also.

Wow, that is a lot of dog bites. Although, I'm surprised Chicago and NYC aren't in the top 10.
