Scan a Code, Help a Dog
A technology-driven initiative helps shelter dogs receive needed nutrition.

Throughout the month of September, dog lovers around the country can help feed homeless dogs by using their smart phone to scan the QR Code on any package of Pedigree sold at Walmart.
For every QR Code scanned, Pedigree will donate an 8-ounce bowl of food to an animal shelter. Up to 500,000 bowls of food will be distributed to certified non-profit animal shelters and rescue organizations across the nation.
"This program is truly revolutionary because it marks a new frontier in generating awareness and support for the plight of shelter dogs," remarked Lisa Campbell, senior brand manager, Pedigree.
In addition to the QR codes, Walmart stores will host weekly education demonstrations and will display local shelter information on-shelf for ways to donate to a pet in need as part of "Pets Love Walmart" month.
Shelters and animal rescue organizations interested in participation in future donation programs can learn more and submit an application here by September 30, 2011.
