From the East Coast to the West Coast and everywhere in between, there are some awesome dog friendly vacation destinations you should consider before booking that same old cabin in the woods.

  1. Albuquerque, NM
  2. With four mild seasons boosting fantastic weather year-round, Albuquerque is a great vacation spot anytime. They have over 13 on and off-leash dog parks as well as pet-friendly restaurants and hotels. The city has been recognized in many national magazines for being so pet-friendly.  For tourist information click here.

  3. Asheville, NC
  4. It’s no wonder Asheville, NC has been named a top dog friendly destination. The city has over 2,000 miles of hiking trails, pet-friendly attractions, shopping and hotels. The historic Grove Park Inn, a four-diamond resort where 10 U.S. presidents have vacationed, recently became dog friendly. In addition, the state of North Carolina recently passed a law that officially allows dogs in sidewalk cafes. For more information click here.

  5. Chattanooga, TN
Celebrating its 80th year in 2012, Rock City Gardens is one of the South's oldest and most popular natural attractions and it’s pet-friendly. Just six miles from downtown Chattanooga, Tenn., Rock City is an enchanted, 4,100-foot walking trail showcasing soaring rock formations and lush gardens that include over 400 species of wildflowers and plants. Other features include the Swing-A-Long Bridge that spans nearly 200 feet and the lookout point at Lover's Leap where you can "See Seven States" while standing over the 140-foot waterfall that cascades down Lookout Mountain. Click here.

  6. Lake George, NY
  7. A truly unique vacation spot, Canine Camp Getaway may be the most pet-friendly vacation spot ever. They have a dog-friendly swimming pools, dog sports (agility, hiking, Frisbee, flyball, lure coursing, scent detection, canine freestyle dancing, doggie skateboarding), seminars by top veterinarians, trainers and dog nutrition experts, and dog-related classes (Canine CPR, preparation and testing for the Therapy Dog and Canine Good Citizen programs, "Barks & Crafts"). Dogs are allowed throughout the resort, you will even find dogs on the dance floor in the lounge at night, relaxing by the bar or enjoying "Paws, Pupcorn & Pajamas" movie night. Of course, they have human activities too. For information click here.

  8. Mt. Rainer National Park, WA
Opened in 2011, Crystal Mountain resort on the border of Mt. Rainier National Park now allows pets to accompany their owners to this stunning park for the first time. Although the park does not allow dogs, dogs are allowed on the Crystal Mountain gondola that carries travelers 2500 feet over the park. At the top, there are several pet friendly hiking trails. There are also several pet friendly hotels in Mt. Rainer, including The Three Bears Lodge. For more information click here.

When choosing a vacation, think about what you and your dog want to do and pick the spot that best fits your personality types. Don’t forget to bring your dog’s vaccination records, as some places may require them. Also, it’s a good idea to know where the closet veterinarian is, in case of emergencies.
Happy Vacationing!
