We know that there are many dog loving celebrities who lend a paw to animals each year. Here are a few that stood out in 2011.

1. Ellen DeGeneres

Rather than say what she has done, it might be quicker to list the charities she hasn’t helped.  Ellen supports many animal-related charities including the Society for Animal Protective Legislation American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign, Farm Sanctuary, The Gentle Barn, and Halo, to name a few. In 2011, the Ellen DeGenere Show won a Genesis Award in the Talk Show Category for her episode Eating Animals with author Jonathan Safran Foer.

2. Bonnie-Jill Laflin

Sports Broadcaster and the only female scout in the NBA (LA Lakers), Bonni-Jill Lafli, started a charity of her own dedicated to protecting the rights of both animals and those who serve in the armed forces. 100% of the donations go directly to the charities (no administration fees) and part of her work includes helping veteran’s adopt a shelter dog or cat.  For more information click here.

3. Chase Utley

Philadelphia Phillies 2nd Baseman and his wife, Jennifer, have started their own charity after getting involved with the Pennsylvania SPCA. The Utley Foundation's mission is to educate the community about the proper treatment of animals and fund non-profit organizations that are active in the fight against animal neglect, pain, and suffering. The Utley Foundation's 2011 launch brought several great happenings, including a community project with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and the 4th Annual Utley All-Star Animals Casino Night.  For more information click here.

4. Gavin DeGraw

Platinum RCA recording artist performed a live acoustic set of songs from his new album, SWEETER, to put a spotlight on animals that are in need of forever homes. The event, Petco's National Adoption Reunion was held last October. The result? The event had the highest number of adoptions in one weekend for Petco and Unleashed by Petco adoption partners with 4399 total adoptions across the nation.

Together, we can all make a difference. Here’s to helping pets in 2012!
