The “dog day” game night will take place at the Charleston Riverdogs baseball game on June 10th, 2012, and will benefit the Boo Radley Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising funds for glioma tumor research.

As a supporting partner, the center will help the foundation raise funds through events like the one planned in June, while also offering low-cost imaging for cancer patients with a financial need. The center may also perform procedures such as brain biopsies at a reduced cost to help dog owners place their pets in glioma-related clinical trials.

The Boo Radley Foundation, named for a Labrador Retriever that was diagnosed with glioma and participated in three brain tumor clinical trials, supports translational medical research into disease common to canines and humans with a primary emphasis on malignant brain tumor research of glioma. Allen Green, DVM, founder and chief of staff at CVRC, lost a family member to glioblastoma, prompting his interest in supporting the foundation.

“We’re aware that this is going to take some time to get traction,” Dr. Green said of the research being funded by the foundation, “but I believe any time you blend a cause that involves both animals and people, great things can happen.”
