Earlier this month, Diamond recalled several lots of its Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice dry dog food and halted production at the Gaston plant two days later. Last week, Diamond issued another recall for a Gaston-manufactured product, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light Formula dry dog food.

Pets infected with Salmonella may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. The company advised owners whose pets that have consumed the recalled food and have any of the preceding symptoms to contact their veterinarian.

People handling dry pet food can also become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to the product, according to Diamond.

I'm sorry about you little puppies! That's so sad. I hope they feel better soon! We considered this brand for our dog, but I'm glad that we decided against it! So much for " Great Dog Food!"

I am a breeder of yorkshire terriers and I am sick to death of having to worry about the good food I feed my babies getting them sick. I feed chicken soup for the puppy soul, and diamond puppy foods to them. Now they are all starting to get sick on me.

I agree with Kiley - this is important stuff to know. I'm glad my dog doesn't eat that food!
