"Will you marry me?” Amanda Rodgers asked while on bended knee. With a happy shake of her Jack Russell Terrier's tail, Sheba wagged yes.

There is no doubt that all dog-lovers consider their dog a member of the family, a child even, but not many people look at their dog and consider marriage. Committing till death do us part is generally a standard practice in dog ownership, but for Rodgers the unspoken vow, just wasn't enough. Rodgers knew she and her dog's love was meant to be when Sheba was young. "She was two weeks old and she was new to the world — but I fell in love with her,” Rodgers says. "I knew that we were meant to be.”
Although Rogers was married 20 years ago for a few months, she decided to take the plunge again but, this time, with the right companion. The human bride wore black stockings and suspenders, and Sheba, the Jack Russell Terrier, went the more conservative, traditional route with a white dress. Her dream of a perfect wedding came true on that special August day. "The day was wonderful, more fun than the marriage. I gave her a kiss to seal the deal, and then everyone threw confetti. It was a wonderful moment,” Rogers tells Metro.
The wedding wasn't representing a legal marriage, but it was Rodgers' way of showing how much Sheba means to her. "Sheba’s never unkind to me and she’s always happy,” Rodgers explains.
The sentiment is certainly nice, but not so sure we will be getting married to our dogs anytime soon (our spouses probably wouldn't approve.) A party to celebrate the love we have for our dogs however, we can always get on board with that.
Rogers is the organizer for a gothic music night in Brixton, England, which includes "Balkan beats, gypsy laments and cossack high kicks.” You can follow Rogers on Twitter as @shebarodgers.
