Have you heard of Marshall the Miracle Dog? If not, get your tissues and prepare yourself for a roller coaster of emotions that will make you want to be the best person you can be.
Meet Marshall: Marshall was found in 2010 during an episode being filmed by Animal Planet’s Confessions: Animal Hoarding. He was one of 60 dogs who were found living on the grounds of an abandoned property. While none of the dogs were in good condition, Marshall was in the worst shape of all. He had been attacked by the other dogs and suffered from bite marks, a broken front leg, and a large open wound on his face. The Humane Society of Missouri stepped into action to save Marshall who underwent surgery. Marshall's heart stopped beating on the operating table three times, but miraculously, his life was saved. After a few months of well needed healing, Marshall was ready to be adopted.
Warning: Marshall was in bad shape when he was rescued and the video contains images that might be difficult for some viewers.
Marshall Helping Children: Inspired by his story, his new owner, Cyndi Willenbrock wrote her first children’s book, Marshall the Miracle Dog (The Marshall Movement, $16.95). The book tells the story of Marshall, and his remarkable journey to recovery and outreach. Willenbrock, who adopted Marshall, told history to help others cope with and overcome abuse and neglect and to help children learn the message of kindness. Willenbrock also trained Marshall as a therapy dog, so he could do outreach and help spread his message further.
"If they can remember Marshall the next time they want to act out, or the next time they are target, maybe they can find their own voice, or maybe they won't act," says Willenbrock. "Because they'll remember, this is what it looks like, this is what the result of bullying can look like."
What's Next for Marshall: In exciting news for Marshall and Willenbrock, Marshall the Miracle Dog caught the eye of the movie scene. Director/Executive producer Jay Kanzler is heading a group of talented young men and women trying to get Marshall on the big screen.
