Over the past few years, video chatting has made its way into our lives as an accessible option for staying in touch with family and friends. In the not too distant future, I can see this being replaced by virtual reality or holographic chatting. In the meantime, however, we are stuck in two dimensions in our phones, tablets and computers. But who said we can’t have some fun with it???
One of the biggest issues people have with video chatting is being presentable enough to be on screen. On the phone, we never have to worry about our appearance. You could have bed head, you could be wearing an ill-fitting shirt, let’s face it, you could be nude, and none would be the wiser.
Well this challenge is no longer an issue with NITO, a new app that uses sophisticated animation technology to represent your facial expressions, movements and voice in a cartoon character of your choice. And what’s best, there are canine options!
Currently available on iPhone and iPad, NITO takes seconds to set up and soon enough you are able to record videos of yourself as various customizable characters and send these messages to your friends! If you’ve always wanted to talk for your dog, now is your chance.
According to Lisa Inouye, "The cute, furry canine messengers can mimic even the slightest eyebrow raise to create messages that pet-loving friends will love to receive.”
I think it would be a lot of fun to make messages for friends and family on their birthdays, holidays or just because. Right now it does not appear the makers of NITO have plans to integrate their characters into live video chat, so for right now it is limited to just recording messages to be sent. Still seems like fun to me!
