Joan Rivers Dies with Her Beloved Dogs at Her Side

Another amazing comedian passes away and we do what we can to keep their light alive.

I'm not even sure what to say. Joan Rivers may have been 81, but she had so much life to give and she certainly wasn't afraid to give it. The world has lost yet another hilarious, strong and passionate individual today. An individual who touched the lives of many.

Last week I had a dream about Joan Rivers - as dreams go it was right normal in the sense that it was not normal at all. I hadn't seen her show or heard her name, but Joan was the main star of my dream that night nonetheless. As always, the "Fashion Police" star looked fabulous. I was shocked when later that day my husband told me that she had gone into a coma.

The comedian was placed into a medically induced coma after suffering cardiac arrest during a minor surgery on Thursday. She was placed on life support and initially her daughter, Melissa Rivers, stated she was "resting comfortably."  However, Melissa made the difficult decision today to take her mother off of life support.

"She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends," Melissa Rivers said in a written statement.

According to reports, she was surrounded by family and friends and her beloved dogs.

"Mount Sinai’s even allowing her dogs in for a moment to kiss Mommy,” NY Post columnist, and long time friends of Rivers, Cindy Adams told HollywoodLife.

While Joan Rivers was known for many things, her love of dogs and dog rescue is something that of course stood out to us. The actress was rarely without a dog by her side and was even featured on People magazine with her dog, Spike.

After losing Spike, she got Max and when Max passed she brought home a Japanese Chin named Teegan who accompanied her often on her outings and travels. She had a total of four adorable rescue dogs, at the time of her passing: Teegan who lived with a Havanese in New York and a Jack Russell Terrier and a Border Collie in California.

"Dogs are easier to love than people; they're certainly more dependable," she says in an interview with ChicagoNow. "Once they love you, that's it. A true friend in life is a dog."

We are so sad to lose such a wonderful and inspiring lady, but happy to know she has some wonderful wet noses and wagging tails waiting for her. She will be greatly missed.
