A note before I start that this sad story is not for the faint of heart.
Dog lover's around the country offer their support to the family of Molly, a Corgi who was killed when neighbor David William Latham shot her in front of her family for barking too much. While this brutal action would not have been acceptable under any circumstance, what makes this story even sadder is that Molly was not even the dog barking.

According to the Bellingham Herald, 55-year-old Latham, carried his rifle across the street to his neighbors’ backyard and shot Molly at point blank range. When owner Cary Chunyk approached him, Latham allegedly waived his gun and continued back to his house.
Latham faces charges of felony animal cruelty and misdemeanors of reckless endangerment, aiming or discharging a firearm within Bellingham city limits, and illegal carrying, drawing or exhibiting of a weapon, but many hope to see him face the highest penalties for his actions. A dog owner himself, Lathem was forced to surrender his own Beagle.
A Facebook page called "Justice for Molly the Corgi" has garnered over 10,000 followers and is leading the charge for a letter-writing campaign to the Whatcom County prosecutors' office, requesting the harshest penalty against Latham. The Justice for Molly team requested that visitors and supporters refrain from hate speech and threats of violence or harm.
Many have left messages on the Facebook page, speaking out on Molly's behalf:
"If that man can kill a dog because the barking annoyed him then imagine what he would do if a human or a baby's crying annoyed him! this is an unforgivable crime that should be taken seriously & with every extent of the law. we need to demand stricter animal cruelty laws! our animals are like our children and they too are a life that deserves to be treated humanely. no more slaps on the hands & small fines for people who believe that animals are just objects! i'm so sorry that you had to lose your beautiful baby in such a horrible way. i'm sending lots of love & positivity your way be strong & fight for molly! she will get justice. & hopefully, all the animals that are treated unfairly & killed by cruel people will get justice too!" posts Angie Carter.
"Wow... that's amazing. Incredible the impact it makes when a few people decide to make a difference. It will be worth it if this creep gets the maximum punishment possible. Won't bring sweet Molly back, but maybe it can give her family some peace... and possibly deter other senseless acts such as this," writes Lisa Land Coles.
Latham's attorney, Adrian Madrone, asks that his client be allowed to share his side of the story. In a statement, Madrone says his client "is extremely regretful and remorseful for his actions. He is a lifelong animal owner, and is very sorry for the pain he has caused. We simply ask that we be allowed to give his side of the story through the legal process before judgment is passed."
