We have all heard dog rescue stories. Most involve abused dogs. Some involve dogs who have fallen in lakes or rivers or have gotten themselves stuck someplace they can’t get themselves out of. All are heartbreaking. However, the fact they have been rescued from these situations is gratifying and heartwarming. This is one such story.

A dog in India was rescued after falling into tar that had just been laid. The thick tar left the dog immovable. Some are even describing him as being "rock-solid.” For those of us who have experienced any degree of claustrophobia can probably imagine what it must have been like for him to be stuck, unable to move and more than likely unable to breathe. It’s scary and one can easily panic.

The dog was reportedly crying out in desperation.

Animal Aid Unlimited, a local Indian charity, rescued the dog. It took more than four hours over the course of two days to remove all of the tar from the dog’s body. Volunteers spent half that time rubbing vegetable oil on the dog’s skin, which eliminated most of the tar. Vegetable oil was used to prevent pain and skin irritation. That was followed by warm baths in which dish soap was used to remove the remaining tar.

According to the rescue group’s Facebook post, the dog "is very understandably traumatized by the whole ordeal but is feeling so much better and is such a good little boy.”

The dog suffered from an upset stomach from ingesting some of the tar, Animal Aid Unlimited believes. Once he recovered, he was neutered and vaccinated.
