Poodle Wins Dance Competition

The International Dog Dancing Tournament took place in Germany earlier this month.

I spent many years as a dancer, mostly ballet and jazz. Pas de deux pieces were common, and sometimes I even had to use a prop (I distinctly remember having to dance with chairs, fans and various other items). But in all the years I was a dancer, not once was I asked to dance with a dog.

However, dog dancing is apparently fairly common. There’s even an annual International Dog Dancing Tournament. This year, on November 1 and 2, it was held in Freiburg, Germany. Many dance competitors and their canine partners performed for a panel of judges to all kinds of music – from Celtic folk music to Phil Collins.

This year’s winner was Uni the poodle and pet parent Doris Mensh, who performed a piece called "Dinner For One.”
