I have known human parents who have lost their child and have seen them grieve in a variety of ways. It is the most terrible thing any parent can go through. And apparently humans are not the only living creatures who feel that way.
A four-legged parent has refused to leave the Laurel Grove North Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia where she buried her puppy.
A 15-year-old photographer named Hunter Cone discovered her, according to the Daily News. She was standing next to her puppy’s body. Cone and his mother attempted to feed the grieving dog, but to no avail. She ran away from them before they got too close.

Cone, who later returned to the cemetery with a group of people, noticed that the dog had buried her puppy and was keeping watch over his grave. No matter what they tried, the dog would not come to them. The Savannah-Chatham Animal Control did not have an officer available to capture the dog on that day, though attempts had been made on prior occasions, according to Savannah Morning News.
Cone has gone back to check on the dog on more than one occasion, noting that she flees whenever she realizes she’s being watched. It is apparent that the dog is in mourning and can’t bear to leave her puppy.
"I’ve seen before how mothers treat their puppies, but this is different. She is sticking around, which leads me to believe it must be her last puppy,” Cone told Savannah Morning News.
The teenager plans on returning to the cemetery every day with his mother until their attempts to rescue the dog are successful.
