‘Atonement’ Star Finds Missing Dog

Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan’s dog returns home after going missing for more than a month.

Saoirse Ronan has been having quite a week. It wasn’t just Tuesday’s announcement of her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Atonement.” On Friday, the 13-year-old actress’s Border Collie, Sassy, returned to Ronan’s Dublin, Ireland, home after going missing for more than a month.

“Sassy ran away on the day I was to return to Ireland [from Pennsylvania, where the actress was filming “The Lovely Bones” with Mark Wahlberg],” Ronan told The Sun. “I thought she was gone forever.”

Ronan, who calls her Oscar nod “cool,” had made an emotional appeal on BBC radio Jan. 15, 2008, for the dog’s return.

Now that Sassy is back, Ronan is looking forward to sticking closer to home – and returning to school.

“I know, isn’t that weird? I just really want to get back into a routine,” Ronan says. “One of my friends said to me the other day, ‘God, I wish you weren’t home, because whenever you come back, you have to leave when I’m just getting used to you being back.’ It really broke my heart.”

The Academy Awards are scheduled for Feb. 24 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Glad she got her dog back. I don't know what I would do without my dog.
