Celebrities, pet owners, and their dogs will mingle this Thursday night, Nov. 29, 2007, at the second annual DogCatemy Awards Gala hosted by the North Shore Animal League America at the Capitale ballroom in New York City.

Guests, including Rachael Ray, Richard Belzer of “Law and Order,” and Yul Vazquez from this month’s “American Gangster” movie, will arrive to walk the red carpet beginning at 6 p.m. FOX 5’s entertainment reporter Toni Senecal will provide commentary while Jodi Applegate, anchor of FOX’s “Good Day New York,” will host the ceremony that will present awards to celebrities for their home videos of their dogs in five categories, including “Best Musical” and “Best Dogumentary.”

More than 400 dogs are expected, and more than 300 people attended last year.

Other media and Hollywood celebrities expected include Debbye Turner, DVM, models Shane and Sia Barbi, radio host Mark Levin, actors Linda Larkin, Josh Flitter, Brandon Hannan, and Hallie Kate Eisenberg, fashion designer John Barrett, Katie Lee Joel, and others.

Proceeds from the black-tie event – ticket prices began at $350 – will go directly to the animal league. North Shore recently took in 132 dogs from a Nov. 8 seizure in Virginia. Each year, the league reports it aids the rescue and adoption of nearly 20,000 pets, provides 11,000 free spay-neuter procedures and administers more than 15,000 vaccinations.

I think it's great for celebrities to bring attention to worthy causes like animal adoption.
