It was a solid year for many BowTie magazines, books, and contributors, as they were recognized with honors at the 2008 Dog Writers Association of America awards banquet, held in New York City on February 10, 2008.

For the second year in a row, Dogs for Kids magazine took home the Maxwell for best Special-Interest Magazine. Another BowTie magazine that earned special recognition was the 2007 Dogs USA annual, which was awarded the best Yearbook, Annual or Special Publication.

BowTie Press and Kennel Club Books also had a lot to be proud of. Two of their books were honored: “Dogs for Kids!,” which won for best Children’s Book, and “Rescue Me!,” which won for best Soft-Cover Guide. “Rescue Me!” author Bardi McLennan was also awarded the ASPCA Humane Issues Award for her work on the book.

This year also marked the first time BowTie took home awards in the humor, poetry, and Internet categories. Illustration Director Thomas Kimball won the award for Humor: Writing and Art for artwork that appeared in the article “Tales of the Absurd,” written by Eve Adamson in Popular Dogs: Housetraining. Regular BowTie contributor Nikki Moustaki won the Poetry category for her poem, “Ode to My Pomeranian,” which appeared in Popular Dogs: Pomeranians. DOG FANCY humor writer Peter Gerstenzang snagged the best Regular Internet Column award for his DogChannel column “My Bone to Pick.”

Rounding out the night were awards for other BowTie regular contributors, including Bo Bengston for his article “China 2007 – The Giant Awakens,” which was published in Dogs in Review. Eve Adamson added to her impressive collection of Maxwell awards with her win for her article “Ooh La-La” from Popular Dogs: French Bulldogs.

DOG FANCY, Dog World, Dogs in Review, Dogs for Kids, Popular Dogs, Popular Puppies, Dogs USA, Puppies USA, and DogChannel.com are part of the BowTie Inc. stable of magazines and books. Divisions of BowTie, Inc. include BowTie Magazines, BowTie Press, BowTie News, Thoroughbred Times Company, Global Distribution Services, and www.AnimalNetwork.com.
