Brooke Astor’s Dogs Find New Home

The late socialite’s dogs are turned over to famous Dachshund breeder Iris Love.

When famous Manhattan socialite Brooke Astor died at 105 in August, she left behind two beloved Dachshunds, Boysie and Girlsie.

Now Astor’s friend Iris Love has the dogs, who made headlines last year when Astor’s son, Anthony Marshall, was accused of neglecting his mother, in part by keeping Astor away from her beloved dogs.

A judge removed Marshall as Astor’s legal caretaker, stripping him of the $2.3 million salary he paid himself to care for her, and replaced him with Annette de la Renta, wife of fashion designer Oscar de la Renta.

When Astor succumbed to pneumonia in August, de la Renta delivered the dogs to Love, a Guggenheim heiress and longtime fancier who raises champion Dachshunds at the Dachsmith Love Kennel in Vermont.

“Mrs. Astor and I shared two great loves — Dachshunds and China,” said Love in an interview with the New York Post. “They are really happy in their new home, although they miss their mother, Mrs. Astor.”

Meanwhile, Marshall’s legal troubles are far from over. He was arrested Tuesday on charges that he took advantage of Astor’s diminished mental state to swindle her estate out of millions. If convicted, Marshall, 83, could spend the rest of his life in prison.

What goes around, comes around! Even if you are 83 years old! Shame on you, Mr. Marshall, if you truly did this to your mother. Surely, she raised you better than that!
