This Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, the members of Prospect Park’s dog club, FIDO (Fellowship in the Interest of Dogs and their Owners), will celebrate their 100th Coffee Bark in Brooklyn, N.Y., from 7 to 9 a.m.
Held the first Friday of each month in the Long Meadow section of the park, Coffee Bark allows dog owners and their pets to mingle while enjoying coffee and light breakfast.
The 100th get-together is a free event to any dog owners in the area and their well-behaved dogs during the off-leash hours of Prospect Park, a 585-acre green area in the heart of Brooklyn.
Hundreds of dogs are expected, and the milestone will be marked with a brass band performance, speakers, and plenty of coffee, pastries and dog biscuits.
Prospect Park boasts wooded trails, several water features, including an area for dogs to swim, the Prospect Park Zoo, a performing arts center, multiple sports fields and a paved biking and running track.
FIDO’s founders worked with park officials to establish off-leash rules and other dog guidelines for the multi-use recreational area.
