Canine Cancer Initiative Gets New Funding

$25,000 grant will go toward a canine cancer initiative.

The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Laura J. Niles Foundation to benefit the Canine Comparative Oncology and Genomics Consortium – a canine tumor bank.

The consortium, which received initial funding of $500,000 from the CHF and the Morris Animal Foundation, will house 3,000 canine cancer tissue samples expected to be a major asset in the treatment and prevention of cancer in dogs and the development of treatments and cures for human cancers.

“We are deeply indebted to the Laura J. Niles Foundation for its tremendous support of this important initiative and the promise that the CCOGC represents,” Canine Health Foundation President Wayne E. Ferguson said.

“Cancer is so pervasive in our canine and human friends, and it continues to be a funding priority for the foundation. We’re proud to partner with these stellar organizations that share our commitment and mission of helping dogs live longer, healthier lives,” Ferguson said.

I think it needs to be looked into. I also hope it works for the sake of our K9 friends

I am so greatful for this funding. I would love to donate. We just lost our 5 year old Jack Russel to a brain tumor in January 2007. We are still devastated. I would love for a cure to be found for cancer.
